REACHnet developed the Pragmatic Trial Application Suite to engage patients in clinical settings on tablet computers in exam rooms. The software is EMR agnostic and syncs to a patient’s Common Data Model (CDM) record through an application that runs on a web browser behind the EMR software. This connection to the CDM allows targeting patients with specific content at the point-of-care. Patients are recruited using a patient application into REACHnet’s research network (Health in Our Hands), recruited into pragmatic trials, engaged with clinical information, screened for clinical interventions, asked to complete patient reported outcome or patient satisfaction surveys, and offered many other tablet-based workflows. A clinical or study team can track patient engagement in real time on a researcher facing application, and study teams can design tablet-based workflows on a design tool. The design tool allows research teams to query the CDM to create a cohort, design content, assign a priority to the content, and deploy the content to specific exam rooms. An audit utility displays analytics of tablet use that can be combined with data from the patient application to provide the study team a full profile of patient engagement in a particular study or clinical intervention.
